No stitching, just reading!

Hi there!  It has been a few weeks and UNFORTUNATELY!! I have not a stitch to show!

A couple of weeks ago I pinched a nerve in my neck which has caused my stitching hand to go numb.  I am on a course of meds and HOPE!! that it brings me some relief because I am really really missing my stitching!!

I have been trying to rest as much as I can and although I have become quite adept at using my other hand on the mouse I am trying to limit my typing as it is just frustrating!, so please forgive me for not commenting so much lately.

So instead of stitching I have been catching up on my reading.  Last I mentioned I had started Love in the Time of Cholera.  I finished it a few weeks back, and I give it a thumbs up.  I liked it but didn't love it.  At first I found it so interesting as it was a translated work and I was enjoying the romantic flourish and detail of the story.  Gabriel Garcia Marquez truly has a way of bringing the written word to a new level.  However, and I think mainly due to the way the book was translated and printed, after a while, I started to be at a loss at what time period I was in, it seemed very vague as years were flying by.  And, I did not understand the purpose of having all of the characters named by their full name throughout the entire book?  for those who have read this I think you will know what I mean.   I feel like I have read the names 'Florentino Ariza' and 'Fermina Daza' a ga-zillion times, LOL!  And even if I tried to just read the first name it did not work, in my mind I would read it all.  It started to exhaust me.  Now that I have read the story though I will finally get to watch the movie, which I think will be a good way to reflect back on the book, as well as watch Javier Bardem!

So I am on to a new book, full speed back into the future... Stephen King's Under the Dome...

As only Stephen King can do, I was immediately swept away.  I love getting into his thousand-pagers!!

The bummer is I just broke my e-reader!!  So now I am reading it on my phone when I am out and about. I had the kobo and was wondering what type of e-readers you all may be using and how you like them??  Since I need to get a new one maybe now is the time to change?

Hope you are enjoying the Spring weather that seems to have finally arrived!  I hope to be back stitching with all of you soon.  Wishing you miles of smiles!

so sorry you are still in pain and can't stitch Krista!
I used to have a Sony Reader which I liked, but I got fed up with only being able to buy books for Kindle on Amazon so I sold it, I was going to buy a Kindle, but decided to get an iPad instead with Kindle software - I love it!! I can check email, look things up online as well as download Scrabble and a gizillion books!!

Oh wow - I'm so sorry about that pinched nerve!! As someone who suffers with chronic back pain, I totally commiserate with your situation and sure hope you get relief FAST! Have you asked your dr about using a TENS unit! There is another device similar to a TENS which activates or stimulates the nerves, and I bet you could get some relief! You may want to see a neurologist since they specialize in this sort of thing.
I'm a huge Stephen King fan as well, but haven't read Under the Dome yet (but it's on my Kindle!!) Can't wait to hear your feedback on this one! Read Gabriel Garcia Marquez in college (One Hundred Years of Solitude) and enjoyed it, BUT that was in a class with a teacher explaining things! Have you tried the Game of Throne books by George RR Martin? Love those! Feel better!

Oh No! I hope that you are able to stitch again soon. It is good to get caught up on some reading. I hope that you find a new ereader soon that you like. So hard to read things on your phone :)
Hugs!

I agree Elaine - I have a Kindle, but I installed the apps for Kindle and Nook on my iPad and love using the iPad so much more than the Kindle!, I also check out ebooks from the county library - cant believe how many selections they offer and all for free!! :-)

What a bummer! I hope you are all better soon and can get back to stitching. :( Bummer about your e-reader too. You couldn't have read "Love in the Time of Cholera" on an e-reader anyway, right? I don't think GGM's books are in e-book form. I really liked Love in the Time of Cholera, but am having a really tough time with 100 Years of Solitude. It's good but.... lol! As for e-readers -- I use my iPad. I have both the Kindle Reader app and the iBookstore on it, plus I can put any of those other readers on it too -- the Nook app is there, possibly even the Kobo. I think so. It's an expense, but I love my iPad. :D

I have a Nook Tablet and absolutely LOVE IT!!!!!! The newest version is called, I believe, Nook HD and something else. I bought a Nook because I live close to B&N and won't have to ship it away if I have any repairs or need asssistance. B&N also offers free classes for the Nook.
That "Under the Dome" looks SO good!!
I hope you're feeling better soon!!

Gosh, that pinched nerve sounds scary, Krista. I did something to my neck the other night in my sleep and it was sore for a few days...seems to be on the mend now, but I'm not making any sudden movements. I SO love my Kindle and find it very easy to download books from the library on to it! I have an iPad, but don't like reading on it due to the glare... Good luck!

Oh my, a pinched nerve, that sounds like a lot of pain. But I'm sure that not stitching for a while has helped. And I hope that you are feeling a lot better by now.
That Stephen King book sounds interesting, I think I'll have to read it, too.
